Combined Heat & Power (CHP)
Combined heat and power (CHP) implements the production of heat and power (in the form of electricity), in one highly efficient process.
Combined Heat and Power makes electricity and also captures heat that is produced in the process.
This is very different from traditional ways of generating electricity (where a lot of heat is simply wasted). In modern power stations, up to two thirds of energy consumed is lost in this way (often as a cloud of steam).
Highly Efficient - Using waste heat, CHP plants can reach efficiency ratings in excess of 80%. This compares with the efficiency of Gas Power Station.
